What are flash memory program counts and are program times counted as 1?

Latest Updated:06/09/2005

Question:

(Flash Memory)   What are flash memory program/erase counts?
Also, when erasing data within a block without programming, are program/erase times counted as 1? [2005/06/09]

Answer:

Program/erase counts show erase counts by block. If the program/erase count is "n" times, erase can be performed "n" times for each block.
For example, if 1-byte programming has been performed to distinct addresses in a 28-Kbyte block 28,672 times and then that block is erased, the program/erase count is counted as 1. Alternatively, if an erase is performed within a block without programming any data, the program/erase count is counted as 1.
NB: Do not write the same address multiple times in a single erase operation (disable overwriting). (#105201)
