What happens when an error occurs in UART shared in serial I/O?

Latest Updated:12/07/2004

Question:

(Serial Interface)  What happens when an overrun error occurs in UART or the clock synchronous shared serial I/O? [2004/12/07]

Answer:

Receive data is not transferred from the receive shift register to the receive buffer register and the data received before the error occured will be retained in the receive buffer register.
Also, if the overrun error flag is not set to "0" (no errors), the receive interrupt request bit will not be set to "1" (interrupt requested). Even the receive operation is continued by the dummy data writing to the transmit buffer while the overrun error flag is set to "1", the receive data enters the receive shift register. However, tranferring to the receive buffer register is not performed. (#104929)
