How to install all the development tools used with the Renesas Synergy Platform

Last Updated:03/22/2018

Goal

After completing this how-to you will be ready to use all the software tools needed to develop with the Synergy Software Platform.

An Overview of Downloading and Installing Synergy Platform Tools

There are two different ISDEs available for developing with the Synergy Platform. The Renesas e2 studio ISDE is an eclipse based development environment and leverages the familiar GCC tool flow. The IAR Engineering Workbench for Renesas Synergy (IAR EW for Synergy) is also available and provides the familiar IAR tool flow. Developers can select either of these environments based on their experience and development needs. Both of these advanced ISDE's are available free of charge.

Installing either ISDE has been simplified over previous installation processes now that the Platform Installers are available. The Platform installer will install all the components needed for the ISDE in one simple step. The remainder of this how to article will guide you through these steps so that you end up with the ISDE you want to use in your development environment.

Note: An article showing the previous version of the installation process is available if you need to install a previous version of an ISDE not supported by a Platform Installer. You can find that article here: Click Here

1: Download the Platform Installer for Your ISDE

You will need to download the Platform Installer associated with the ISDE you wish to use for your Synergy development projects. This step well guide you through the process of downloading the files you will need depending on your target ISDE.

If you want to install the e2 studio based ISDE:
  • Navigate to the SSP page on the Renesas Website. Find the Download section. If you are not already signed in to MyRenesas clicking on the Download button will bring up the MyRenesas login window. Login and you should come back to the SSP web page. The Download button should now show as Download Platform Installer. Click that button and select the e2studio option. The download will begin. This is a big file since it includes everything. The download will take several minutes.

If you want to install the IAR-based ISDE:

  • Follow the above steps but select the IAR option in the Platform Installer selection window. The download will begin. This is a big file since it includes everything. The download will take several minutes.
