Can higher V be output when a lower V is input in 3-terminal regulator?

Question:

For a 3-terminal regulator, can a higher voltage be output when a lower voltage is input (for example "+3 V → +5 V" or "-3 V → -5 V") ?

Answer:

No.
The output voltage of the 3-terminal regulator must be less than the input voltage in absolute value.
