If TCNT count is stopped when flow occurs, what happens to operation?

Latest Updated:06/10/2013

Question:

If the TCNT count is stopped at the same time that an overflow/underflow occurs, what happens to the operation?

Answer:

The following three operations will occur.

1. If the counter does not overflow
The TCNT value when MTU0 to 3 stop is retained. In addition, if MTU2a is restarted, count resumes from the retained counter value.
2. If the counter overflows
If MTU0 to 3 stop at the same time that an overflow occurs, an overflow interrupt is generated and the TCNT value becomes 0000h.
3. If overflow and clearing of the counter occur at the same time
If overflow and clearing of the counter occur at the same time, priority is given to the clearing of TCNT, and a corresponding overflow interrupt is not generated.
